Things That Make Me Go "Hmmmmm"

The other day Daddy D was on the freeway in stop and go traffic. The guy in the car next to him had his window rolled down and his tattoo covered arm resting on the sill. He also had his music BLARING. Daddy D rolled down his window to hear what the guy was listening to. Much to his surprise it was the most recent Miley Cyrus song.

How many men, tattooed or not, do you think listen to Miley Cyrus?

How did Daddy D know it was a Miley Cyrus song and sing me the words in an attempt to familiarize me with the song? (This is not a song that our 9 year old has heard yet)

A Sign and an Award

When my boys were about 15 months old they didn't seem to be talking much and had very little interest in walking. We started seeing Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists. On the very first visit from the Occupational Therapist, she taught us all the sign for "more." The boys started using that sign the very same day. We found out that they could understand pretty much everything we were saying, they just weren't verbalizing the words themselves.

So, for the last couple of months, every once in a while, when I would ask Daisy if she wanted "more" of something I would also use the sign.


More - The thumbs and fingertips of each hand are held together, and the fingertips of both hands tap together several times. Represents gathering more things together. *photo and instructions from Parents.com*

Last weekend, after Daisy had finished eating her first ever banana chocolate chip cookie she did this:

Silly Smartie! It took me two days to get her to perform for the camera. I'm so excited about her new skill that I'm going to try to teach her a few more signs. Here are a few that I found at Parents.com. **Update: My sister let me know that I forgot to add what the sign actually meant. I added the meanings to go with the actions! Man, I'm tired!**

Mom - The thumb of the sideways "five" hand taps the side of the chin several times. Fingertips may wiggle.


Eat - The fingers and thumb, held together as if holding a small piece of food, tap the mouth several times.

Pain - The two index fingers tap together several times at the location of the pain. The face should show a pained expression.

Play - The "Y" hands are shaken, pivoting at the wrists, representing the shaking of a tambourine.

It has been almost a month since Brandi (one of my favorite bloggers) awarded me with this:

The rules here are to pass the award on to 7 bloggers who I think are honest in their blogging and to list 10 honest things about myself. Here goes:

1. I was born and raised in UT (any questions? It’s ok! Ask!) We now live in AZ and the only time I miss snow is at Christmas. Although, I occasionally missed snow at xmas even in UT.

2. I don’t color my hair. It used to be quite a bit lighter but has gotten darker with each baby. Not too bad though for someone with dark eyebrows!

3. I DO NOT like to fly. Part of the reason is because I don’t fly very often. Last flight was Feb. 2008 and before that was in May of 2007. The other reason and really the true cause of my fears is that I love to watch “Seconds From Disaster” and “Air Emergency” on the National Geographic Channel. Why do I torture myself?

4. My Mom and I both have twins. Twins don’t run in the family, infertility does. Gotta love chlomid!

5. I am terrified of spiders and the only way I dare to kill them is to throw phonebooks at them! My brave Bailey has to rescue me sometime and he will put a jar over the spider so Daddy can dispose of it when he gets home.

6. I am a ScrapLifter. I love to scrapbook, but I am not creative. Proper photo placement is not my "thing." I can however follow a pattern. Anyway, when my family looks at our albums they aren't going to know that I copied the layouts from somebody else!

7. I do not like to eat meat unless it is surrounded by some sort of bread/bun!


OK, this is why it has taken me a month! My sleep deprived mind can't think of anything else right now. I will add more if I can come up with anything else of interest!

What Would Your Children Say Wednesday

Since we had combo comedy last week with the boys I was hoping to have "Laughs with the Ladies" this week. But Daisy had other plans which included not cooperating for a little video. So we will just have Lily Laughs and I will try to get Daisy's video for later!



I was going through Lily's baby box the other day and found this story. So glad I wrote these things down because this is not a "moment" that I remember!



January 16, 2004

Lily and I were playing dolls. She told me that all 3 of her babies were named Aliah.



I asked "How do you keep them all straight"



Lily replied "Oh, I just iron them!"

Daisy's Toys

I thought I would do a little review of the toys that Miss Daisy got for her birthday. I am so happy with the things she got and maybe it will be helpful if you are in the market for baby toys.

First is the V-tech Sort and Spin Blender. It teaches colors, shapes and fruits and has a setting for just singing songs. It will take a while for Daisy to get bored with this one! She already loves to load and unload the shapes. When she’s older (and a professional shape-sorter) she can pretend to make us smoothies!

Next is the LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set. We have this toy on the fridge, but it can also be played with on the floor. It comes with 5 animals, two pieces each, that can be mixed and matched to make real or silly animal combinations. With each mix or match babes are introduced to animal names and sounds and fun little songs. This is great for her to play with while we are cooking/cleaning in the kitchen. Daisy loves to hold on to the fridge handle and dance to the songs.


And finally is the LeapFrog My Pal Violet. This is a cute stuffed animal that has so many fun actions. You connect it to your PC and can customize the music and personalize the learning with your child’s name and favorite food, animal and color. You can also select and download your choice of learning songs and lullabies from an online list of 30 songs. It also teaches first words, daily routines, early number sense, feelings and emotions and animals. It even has a little song that spells Daisy’s name. And another thing that is especially cool for us is that her name is Violet. To go with all the other flower girls in our family. They also make a My Pal Scout (green).


Daisy has had so much fun with her toys, I just thought I would share them with you.

Look who is home with me today!

Mr. Hack Attack! Man I hate asthma and kids getting sick from going to school! Why? Why? Why? A little cold turns in to a struggle to breath with a cough that makes the poor kid throw-up! Help! Any one have any magic tricks for keeping kids healthy during the school year?

I Did It Again!

Technically it is Bailey's turn to share his humor, but these two silly boys have been keepin me in stitches ALL week! With the extra comedic material we will have a combo "What Would Your Children Say." It's also to make up for being a day late. Wednesdays are proving difficult for posting. I'm helping out in the boys' classes on Wed and Thur mornings. This is usually the time when Miss Daisy naps and I get to use the computer for a minute. Looks like I'm going to have to do some pre-planning to keep on track! Anyways (mom, that's for you!) On with the show:

The other day we were in the car and the kids were talking about how many kids they wanted to have when they grow up.

Lily said "I want to have 4 kids, mom, just like you. I will have a girl first and then twins!"

Ashton said "I want 6 kids.......No 7 kids..........I mean 9 kids." He thinks the winner has the most kids!

Bailey didn't say anything so I asked him how many kids he wanted.

He said "One."

Interesting.

I asked "How come you only want one kid?"

He replied, in an are you crazy voice, "Cuz I don't want to change all them diapers!!"

On another day, in a different outing in the car, Ashton was frantically trying to get my attention from the back seat. When I turned around I saw and heard this:

And one last bit of comedy. The other day, I walked out of my room after working hard on hair and make-up. Ashton was sitting at the computer and he said to me "You look cute, Mom!"

Oh sweet Ashton. Thank you! You just got a get out of jail free card for your next 5 bad behavior episodes!
