Thank You Very Much!

The Daily Dribbles

It is time for Kmama's weekly therapy session. If you need some therapy, link up or just hop over and enjoy all the other thankfulness!

To the doctors that think it's funny to scare the crap out of us every few months, thinking there is something wrong with Daisy, Thank You Very Much!

It all started at her 20 week ultrasound. There was fluid in her kidneys. I tried not to panic, but there was no change at a follow-up ultrasound one month later. Then, of course, I worried about the worst case scenario. Another month of worrying and a Level II ultrasound with a specialist showed that Miss Daisy's kidneys were clear and perfectly normal! Thank you so much!

At Daisy's 2 month well-check visit, the doctor said she had a heart murmur. Again, an entire month of worrying before we could get an appointment with a cardiologist. EKG's, ultrasounds and evaluations showed that Daisy DID NOT have a heart murmur! The cardiologist said that since babies are so small it is easier to hear their blood flowing which the original Doc thought was a valve not closing all the way. He also said they like to see "normal" hearts from time to time. Thanks for making me drive across town and making me pay a "specialist" co-pay just to be told that my baby is "normal!"

And then to our most recent issue. At Daisy's first office visit, 6 days old, she was in the 5th percentile for weight. For the next 4 months her weight percentiles went steadily up. At her 4 month well-check she was in the 49th percentile. That is pretty good for my kids. But with each visit after that her percentiles started going down. At her 12 month check-up she was in the 6th percentile and the Dr was concerned. She wanted me to take Daisy to get her blood drawn so they could check for kidney function, liver function, celiac disease and some other tests I can't remember. I DID NOT want to take her to get blood drawn! Wouldn't she have other symptoms if she had any of those problems? I didn't take her. We were back at the Drs office one month later for a weight check and I told the Dr I wanted to give it a little more time even though her weight was now in the 4th percentile. She agreed and we scheduled a 15 month well-check. Between 13months and 15months Daisy enjoyed Halloween with lots of mini Milky Ways and we had her drink PediaSure with her meals. She had to have gained some good weight! However, at her 15 month visit she was down to the 1st percentile! The Dr wanted to get the tests. I tried to get an appointment while DaddyO was off work for Thanksgiving but  I was unsuccessful. I finally took her in last Friday. It was awful. I had to hold her down and let someone poke her arm. I thought she would scream at the top of her lungs but she was so upset she was hyperventilating and there wasn't much sound! We went back to the Drs again on Tuesday for the results of the tests. EVERYTHING was normal. I guess her thyroid level was 1/10 of a point above the normal range and we might have to re-check that in a couple of months. Oh, and Miss Daisy is now in the 2nd percentile for weight Thank You Very Much!

Does this look like a sick baby to you?

I'm glad the testing was okay, but sorry that you and she had to go through that.

Buddy is very small, if I hadn't told you that before. He's in the fifth percentile for height and weight and concerned us all. He's been in that steadily though, so now they just say he's small.

Thanks for linking up!

Doctors and their stupid percentiles... I'm sorry Daisy had to go through that, but I'm glad to hear everything is NORMAL. My 9 yo weighs 52lbs. and eats like a horse. :)(and when he was 2, I was told he had a heart murmur and had to go to a specialist to be told that he was fine).

Wow! Can't believe all that. I am glad she is healthy and "normal" to bad she had to be poked to find that out.

I hate when they scare us as parents like that...she is just precious. Those blue eyes are gorgeous. I did notice the band aid from a blood draw in the last post...but I wasn't sure if that was it.

She looks very normal to me! Plus, don't you need some small and some large in order to get the "average"? Darn doctors.

So cute!!

Wow- Daisy is giving you a run for your money! Nolan had to get blood drawn recently too and I was so nervous for him. It is so awful.

Whew! I'm so glad the tests came back normal. I wonder if Dr. Ryan would've put you through all that. Seems like they would figure out by the fourth child that you just have "small" kids. Duh!

Grrr... hate those scare tactics! And sorry she had to go through that - it's never fun!

Our kiddo DOES have kidney disease, but they started off telling me next to nothing... including if he had the type that he could not possible survive after birth. #1 way to freak out a pregnant mom!

And they panicked about his percentile once - then realized the nurse had entered kilograms instead of pounds. LOL

And no - she looks nothing but CUTE in those pictures! :)

Oh sweet Daisy! She looks beautiful and perfect... sorry that you have had all those past questions raised, but happy to hear that all has been as they should be with her kidneys and heart. Prayers for continued good results!
