True Story Tuesday - Stupid Parent Tricks

I wish I could say that this incident was caused because I was an inexperienced, first time mom, but this was not the last time I performed similar stupid tricks!

Thanksgiving 2001
Lily was 19 months
I actually scrapbooked this event in an attempt to always remember my mistake! Here is the actual journaling I included on the layout.

I was looking forward to a nice, relaxing, eating all day Thanksgiving. I should have known that trying to make it to both sides of the family's parties was going to be difficult!

Lunch with my Dad's side of the family started at 1pm. Before we left the house, DaddyO changed a messy diaper for Lily. So, I assumed that since we had to be back to my Mom's by 2:30pm and Lily had already had her dirty diaper for the day, that it would be ok if I left the diaper bag at home (we were living at my Mom's at the time).

I was very very wrong.

As soon as we arrived for our first dinner, Lily had another stinky diaper, but we had NO diapers! Normally there would have been many families with many babies that could have shared a diaper with us. Unformately they were all spending this holiday with the other side of their families!

DaddyO and I didn't know what to do. We decided to go in to the bathroom to see if we could just scoop the poop out.  Once we got the diaper open we realized that wasn't going to be possible and I didn't want to put the messy diaper back on Lily. We wiped her up (with wet tp cuz I didn't bring wipes) and DaddyO went out to see if by any chance there was a diaper in the car.

Lily and I were hiding in the bathroom. She was running around naked! With nothing covering her bum, and to add to the fun we were already having, she peed on my Aunt's bathroom rug.

I could not believe this was happening and wanted to slap myself for not bringing the diaper bag!

DaddyO came back from the car with a cloth diaper and since we had absolutely nothing else, I searched through every drawer, in my Aunt's bathroom, for some safety pins. After seeing much more than I wanted to, I finally found some pins and put the cloth diaper on Lily!

While we were partying in the bathroom, EVERY ONE at the party was waiting for us to join them so they could say the prayer for dinner. On his way out to the car, DaddyO had instructed them to NOT wait for us. They did not listen!

We finally made it out of the bathroom and everyone was standing around drooling because we made them wait so long to eat. The prayer was said, we ate in about 5 minutes and then we ran out the door!

When we got home Lily was soaking wet from peeing in the cloth diaper minus any plastic pants. We got her changed and in a real diaper and went to eat some more Thanksgiving dinner!

And then I wrote:

I guess I'm thankful that this happened because I will NEVER forget the diaper bag again!!!

I am such a dope!! I DID NOT learn my lesson on this day! It took me 8 years to figure it out and now there is ALWAYS a completely stocked diaper bag in the car AT.ALL.TIMES!!!!

We had even bought Lily a special Thanksgiving outfit. Here she was BEFORE my disastrous trick!

Now, hurry on over to Once Upon a Miracle for more true stories!

Totally cracking up! Because I once totally panicked because I'd left the diaper bag at a restaurant and had already driven 45 minutes away. When I arrived at the restaurant, they asked me to describe the bag... "uhh, it's solid black and kinda bulky".

They brought out FOUR diaper bags matching that description!!!

I'm sorry, but her peeing on your aunt's rug is the point where I really started losing it and trying not to laugh loudly enough to wake a sleeping household... that is TOO FUNNY!

(And I have learned my lesson - always an extra change of clothes for Itty Bit AND Mommy in the car!)

Great story - I bet there's a lot of moms out there that are chuckling in empathy!

Oh my goodness! What a story. As long as you learned a lesson from it....

We've all had experiences like that at one time or another. Thanks for sharing yours.

She's such a doll!

Loved your story. I usually keep diapers in my truck, but cleaned it out the other day...and then was out with my youngest and he had a gross diaper. YUCK!

Hahaha- I have loaned a beach towel to a friend when they had no diapers. Whatever you gotta do, right?

She was so cute as a baby! I mean she's cute now, but I am in love with her baby photos. :)

Diapers and extra clothes.. if you don't pack extra clothes that is when they will for sure need them :)

So funny! I did the same thing, but in a restaurant. In the course of an hour, my daughter exploded three times and went thru the two extra outfits I had. She finished lunch wrapped in a newborn diaper I bummed off someone and nothing else!!!!

That is sooo funny and I can say so becuase I have been in a similar situation myself. Only at a wedding reception and luckily we had a diaper but only a onsie in the middle of winter. Poor Mason and Lily.

She did look adorable in her outfit though! Have a great Tuesday!

Oh my goodness! I always have a diaper bag and/or diapers with me. It never fails that no matter where we go and when, something will happen. ALWAYS.

LOL at her peeing on your aunt's rug!!

Cute blog design. Love it.

LOL...I've learned that the hard way too!

I've done that too. Now I have a bag that just stays in the car with extra everything... plus band aids, Neosporin, GermX, tissue, ant-bite stuff... goodness, I could go on and on.

Oh, and I STILL run into problems even with all that stuff. Lil' Bub busted his chin on the slide Sunday while we were at the park and I had to give him a baby sock to stop the bleeding.

I think us moms are all in the same class! Who hasn't tried to scoop the poop out - haha! I never forget the bag either. I like that you saw more then you wanted to in the bathroom drawers! Haha!
Pretty outfit pre-pee soaking :o)

Oh boy have I been there! And yet I rely on the car always having diapers now and have found myself in this situation more than once. Hee Hee

I can't wait for Monkey to potty train so we can stop worrying about the diaper supply. ;-)
